Tar Ball Jars on Sale Tomorrow at Jackson Square

Excerpt:
"Each jar contains a tar ball along with other materials collected from the beaches of West Ship Island, Mississippi. The island is located 11 miles off the shore from Gulfport and approximately 120 miles from the surface of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig. It is currently open to the public. A ferry departs for the island from Gulfport twice daily (9AM and 12PM), and will continue to do so until September 6th."

"The materials were collected in a single day in July. All of the jars contain sand, seashells, and at least one tar ball. Some contain other objects such as feathers, plants, cigarette lighters, pill bottles, bottle caps, and food wrappers. The materials were taken from the island with no incident. Clean-up crews and park rangers were friendly and eager to answer any questions."

"All proceeds will be donated to the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund. The Fund states: 'Our focus is to help fishermen and their families in the following parishes: Plaquemines, St. Bernard, lower Jefferson, Terrebonne, and Lafourche.'"
