The Trumpet July/August

@ the Backstreet Cultural Museum with elaborate Mardi Gras suits.
This guy spends something like 200 hours on each suit. His hands are dotted with little tiny scars and his fingers are all crooked from arthritis. "Them beads'll make ya go blind," he says, but he keeps sewing. People never wear the same suit twice, so he's busy making new ones for next March. The old ones are put on display at the museum.

07.14: "Big Chief" Daryl Montana said today that it takes him 5,000 hours (about 208 days) to make a suit each year. I'm guessing that he meant to say 500? ...which is still much more time spent on each suit than I wrote above.
